After seeing The Batman, Danny DeVito weighed in on Colin Farrell’s performance as The Penguin, a role DeVito played in 1992’s Batman Returns.
The Batman became a box office success, and one of the actors who have stood out for his work in the Matt Reeves film is Colin Farrell, who plays Oswald Cobblepott / Penguin, a role that Danny DeVito played three decades ago.

The actor and director has already been able to see The Batman, and in an interview for The Wrap he has given his verdict on the work of Colin Farrell as the new version of Penguin.
“In terms of performances, Colin, who is a good friend of mine, I think he did a great job on that. Hats off to anyone who sits in the makeup chair that long. I did it with The Penguin and I loved it”.
DeVito pointed out that the environment that Matt Reeves built in the film was one of the great keys for Colin Farrell to achieve a great performance.
“Certainly, (The Batman has) a different setting. I think he was a more edgy, serious, gangster Batman. Of course there are three Italians who are bad at it”.
Is The Batman better than Batman Returns?
Despite marveling at The Batman, Danny DeVito made it clear that the work he did three decades ago with Tim Burton is still his favorite version of Penguin.
“My feeling of comparing the two movies, I’m like a Tim Burton fan… I like the whimsical, the opera, the disgruntled Pee-wee Herman throws me off a bridge (laughs). that makes me smile”.
The Batman will star Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle / Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton / The Riddler, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot / The Penguin, and John Turturro as crime boss Carmine Falcone.
Jeffrey Wright will also star as Police Commissioner James Gordon, while Andy Serkis will play Alfred Pennyworth.
The premiere of The Batman on digital platforms is scheduled for April 18, 2022.
