Several of the novelties of Android 12 are related to privacy and security, although they are a bit scattered throughout the system. Android 12 in the Google Pixel 6 adds a security panel where at a glance you can see the status of the mobile.
There are several elements to consider when protecting an Android mobile: that it has a blocking system, that Google Play Protect is active, that the latest security updates are installed. On a Google Pixel 6 it will be easier than ever see that everything is in order, with the new panel.
Is your mobile safe?
The main novelties of Android 12 could be classified into two areas: Material You and privacy. In this second aspect, visual indicators and quick settings are added to deactivate delicate permissions such as the microphone, camera or location. Also, there is a new privacy panel which summarizes the use of these permissions during the last 24 hours in a single screen.
A similar concept is Security Hub, which possibly translates as the security panel, a place where you can see at a glance if everything is in order in terms of mobile security or not, as a traffic light: green, all good; yellow, some problem; red, various problems.
The idea is to have a list of security settings evaluated to see if they have the optimal value or not. If you don’t have them, you can foreseeably go to the corresponding setting by tapping on the one marked with a warning. These are some of the checks that are carried out:
Play Protect: if it is active and has found a malicious application on the mobile.
Find my device: if the mobile is configured so that it can be found remotely.
Security updates– Check that the latest security update is installed.
System crash: that the mobile is protected with some form of secure lock, such as PIN or password.
Biometrics: that the biometrics of the mobile is configured.
Google security check– Check that your Google account is secure.
Google comments that this novelty will come “first to the Google Pixel 6“, so there is still a chance that we will see it on other Android 12 phones later … or not. Time will tell.
