New Fortress Energy has set as a market focus the European need to diversify where the fuel comes from after the energy crisis generated by the war in Eastern Europe and the brake on Russian gas purchases.
Exports could also go to Asia, as reported by the company in its calls with investors.
The US company had already received authorization from the US Department of Energy to export natural gas to northern Mexico, from where it will be sent to different markets.
The construction of the first unit to send gas from the Altamira terminal is already 90% complete, according to the statement. The American company has an alliance with the state-owned Pemex to develop the Lakach gas field, which it had been trying to start up since 2007.
The majority of the gas obtained from this asset will be used by New Fortress Energy’s export markets.
