If you are one of the people who have the possibility of doing home office, either part-time or full-time, you will know that this modality has drastically transformed their habits. At Deel, we conducted a survey of 100,000 professionals on LinkedIn to determine what behaviors they changed and/or acquired during remote work.
6 curious habits of the home office
The survey found new schedules, some “rituals”, and other interesting habits born with working remotely or at home.
1. The first coffee
According to the survey carried out by Deel, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. 60% of remote workers admit to taking this first meal daily, while only 21% say they never do. Similarly, homemade food continues to win the game: 84% of respondents said they prefer to prepare their own coffee, a range far higher than the 16% who buy it in cafeterias.
2. Friday or Monday, the holiday dilemma
Holidays or holidays are a great opportunity for workers to rest, whether they are remote or not, especially when they allow a “long weekend”. However, there are certain preferences: 63% of the workforce prefer to take a Friday over a Monday. Perhaps it is due to the fact that Fridays tend to reduce the workload for some, contrary to what happens at the beginning of the week, when emails, meetings and pending tasks abound.
3. God helps those who get up early
For many, remote work provides the ability to sleep late into the day and manage time at will, while workers have greater autonomy in this regard, Deel’s analysis shows that 47% of the workforce choose to wake up between 5 and 7 am, while 44% do it between 7 and 9 am
Remember that a good routine is key to working remotely and not failing in the attempt, activating the body and mind -whether meditating, exercising or simply sharing with your pet- before starting the day will facilitate the rest of the day .
4. Is the TV the new co-worker?
Deel’s survey revealed that 72% of remote workers do not like to consume television or content from streaming platforms during working hours. The typical phrase of “I turn on the TV to keep me company” seems to have been forgotten, now the majority (56%) listen to music while working.
5. “Office room” the new wave?
Remote work has caused many collaborators to adapt spaces in their homes to have a workplace in optimal conditions, which has led to rooms, rooms, tables, and others becoming temporary offices. However, Deel found that 52% of those surveyed would rather not see beds in the background at a meeting, apparently for many seeing where their co-workers sleep still generates a bit of a cringe.
6. Favorite work tools
Remote work gives you the ability to travel and work from almost anywhere, yet none of this would be possible without the right tools. In this sense, laptops have become the favorite device for 87% of those surveyed, a large majority taking into account the 13% who prefer to have their day on a desktop computer. In addition, the level of privacy also plays an important role when choosing a place to work, which is why 74% said they would rather use headphones than use the computer speakers to listen to music or take calls.
