Yesterday at the last minute Apple released the final version of iOS 13.5 for iPhone, and iPadOS 13.5 for iPads. This is a very important update to iOS 13, perhaps the most important since the thirteenth version of Apple’s mobile operating system was officially released.
This may be one of the last major updates to iOS 13, the new version of the system will be unveiled at WWDC 2020 and the first beta of iOS 14 could come just after, for which there is only a month left. That means that iOS 13.5 is an already completely stable system and few improvements are yet to come.
All the news that comes with iOS 13.5
1. Face mask detection with Face ID
One of the current problems, due to the pandemic, is that we must wear a mask when we go out, and when we cover half of our face, Face ID stops working properly. Until now when trying to unlock iPhone with face mask, you had to wait for Face ID to fail detection for the unlock code or password to appear. Now with iOS 13.5 Face ID it will detect that you are wearing a mask and will automatically request the unlock code without having to wait several seconds.
2. Notification of exposure to COVID-19
One of the main reasons for this update. Apple and Google have joined forces to create an API, as a tool that developers can use, with which applications from health authorities are allowed to track people infected with COVID-19. In this way, if you have been around someone diagnosed with COVID-19, your iPhone will notify you of that possible contact.
3. You can post Apple Music songs on Instagram
Apple Music is made more social in iOS 13.5 by introducing a new feature that allows you to share a song directly to your Instagram stories. Just go to Apple Music and the song you want to share and Instagram will appear among the options, Apple Music will create a story using the song title, album name and an animated background.
4. Group FaceTime improvements
Now that group video calls are so hot, Apple has implemented a new setting that solves one of the problems that most irritated users. By default in FaceTime group video calls, each window appears in a square that moves and grows large when someone speaks. This is something that can get dizzy and can be deactivated from Settings> FaceTime> Speaking, deactivating that function the participants will not move.
5. Improvements in emergency calls
This is a new feature that allows you to share the medical ID that you have stored on your iPhone directly with the authorities when you make an emergency call. It is something that you can choose personally and that, at the moment, is only available in the United States.
6. Security bug fixes
As usual, Apple has also fixed some vulnerabilities in iOS and iPadOS, there are several bugs fixed, including the Mail app security hole that allowed a hacker to execute code remotely via email.
