Qualifying session for the 24 Hours of Le Mans ended without a hitch, even if there have been three neutralizations for various incidents. In fact, the Toyota # 7 driven by ‘Pechito’ López was the fastest vehicle of the session (3: 26.279), thus leading the way towards a hyperpole that will have 23 cars on the track instead of the 24 that the regulations draw up. With five prototypes in the queen class, there is no margin for there to be six cars per category in the hyperpole as defined by the regulations of the queen of the WEC since 2020. Daniel Serra sets the standard in LMGTE-Pro with the Ferrari # 52 he shares with Miguel Molina.
As it happened in 2020, edition in which the classification format with hyperpole was inaugurated, the prototypes of the queen class have run without any pressure having five cars for six seats. That perhaps has been noted in the times, although it is true that Toyota # 7 was the fastest car on the track thanks to the 3: 26.279 of the Argentine ‘Pechito’ López. Eight tenths behind the Alpine # 36 has been placed. For its part, the Toyota # 8 finished in third place, while the Glickenhaus, surpassed by several LMP2, little more than have complied with the procedure.
Much more substance has had the classification in LMP2, among other things by the early accident of the Oreca # 48 from the IDEC Sport team. The mishap carried out by Paul Loup Chatin not only caused a period of ‘Full Course Yellow’, but also opened a place for the hyperpole by being one of the candidates for the ‘top 6’. Be that as it may, António Félix Da Costa set the benchmark time with JOTA’s Oreca # 38 by signing a 3: 28.807. They have also got a ticket for the superpole G-Drive Racing Aurus # 26 and Oreca # 41, # 65, # 32 and # 23 Team WRT, Panis Racing and United Autosports, the latter with two cars.
The LMGTE-Pro category has left the two AF Corse Ferraris in the lead. The # 52 driven by Daniel Serra set the standard with a final record of 3: 46.011, a time five tenths faster than that of his brother GTE. Behind the two Italian cars is the Porsche # 92, while the Corvette # 64 has achieved the fourth position. The last two places for the hyperpole have been for the Porsche # 72 from HubAutoCorsa and for the Porsche # 91, the second unit of the official team. Outside the final qualifying session, Antonio García’s Porsche # 79 and Corvette # 63 remained..
Lastly, the LMGTE-Am category has been the focus of excitement and incidents in equal measure. In the second section, the qualifying session has ended with paths ‘slow zones’ caused by the spins and track starts of the Aston Martin # 98 driven by Paul Dalla Lana and the Ferrari # 85, GTE with a 100% female crew. The six GTE that have obtained tickets for the hyperpole have been the # 88 and # 86 Porsche from Proton and GR Racing, the Ferrari # 71, the Porsche # 56 from Team Project 1 and the Aston Martin # 95 and # 33, both from the TF Sport team.
