Elon Musk gives something to talk about again. On December 18, he shared a survey on his Twitter profile in which he asked if he should resign as head of this social network, in addition to saying that he would accept the results.

The survey, which lasted 12 hours and is now closed, had the response of 17.5 million users, of which almost 60% (57.5) said they agreed with Elon Musk leaving office as CEO of Twitter.

Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll.

It is not the first time that Elon Musk has carried out this type of casual survey, in recent days he had carried out another on whether he should reinstate the journalists he had suspended from Twitter.

Elon Musk launched his survey on whether he should step down as Twitter CEO after the tycoon himself admitted his mistake in announcing restrictions prohibiting mentioning rival Twitter platforms. Among these platforms are its direct rivals such as Mastodon, Tribel, Nostr, Post and Truth Social, and networks such as Facebook and Instagram. Parler, TikTok or LinkedIn are not on this list of banned social networks.

Faced with criticism from users for this change, Elon Musk responded that he would not make any more policy changes without first consulting users through surveys.

Another of Elon Musk’s actions that sparked controversy among users was the cancellation of the @ElonJet account, which supposedly tracked the whereabouts of his aircraft.

Some time later, he suspended the accounts of journalists who wrote about the jet’s tracking account, considering that it transmitted the “murder coordinates.” Among the censored journalists were reporters from The New York Times, CNN, Washington Post, Voice of America and other publications.

Given these facts, Elon Musk changed the rules of Twitter to prohibit users from sharing the current location of another person without their consent.
