Apparently, Tesla is delaying the Cybertruck and the Semi truck until next year, news that contrasts with what they have been saying for months.
Tesla will not reign alone with his Cybertruck. The rest of the manufacturers have put so much effort that, most likely, the new pick-up of the electric brand will come after the Rivian R1T and the GMC Hummer EV. It looks like, Tesla delays Cybertruck and Semi truck until next year, a news that contrasts with what they had been saying for months. And they had assured that it would arrive at the end of this year.
It seems that the semiconductor crisis and the different delays that the brand faces are to blame. The brand itself said: “due to the limited availability of battery cells and the challenges of the supply chain global supply, we have changed the launch of the semi truck program to 2022 ”. This also affects the pick-up, which will go into production at the new Austin plant after the Tesla Model Y.
Tesla’s vice president of vehicle engineering, Lars Moravy, said “the Cybertruck is currently in its last stages”, Highlighting that they have already completed the basic engineering of the architecture. In the same way, he himself said: “Much of the structural package and large cast designs remain for the Model Y being built in Berlin and Austin. Obviously those take precedence over the Cybertruck, but we are moving into the beta phases of Cybertruck later this year, and will look to increase that in production and bring it to Texas after the Model Y is ready.”.
The CEO of Tesla, Elon musk, also spoke about this: “In order for the Cybertruck and Semi to scale to significant volume for customer deliveries, we have to solve the chip shortage by working with our suppliers.“. He even talked about reducing production:”We can build a small number of vehicles, but the cost effect if we build a small number of vehicles is insane as they would literally cost $ 1 million each or more.”.
