Tesla has installed its first truck charger, which is called the Megacharger. What does this differential technology allow?
Tesla is a benchmark in sustainable mobility. Over the last few years, he has been making all kinds of differential bets in search of a goal; create a differentiation within the electrical segment. The installation of proposals based on electrification has been a bet to which more and more competitors have been joining. Still, the firm’s competitive advantage is strong despite the presence of more automakers.

What began as a company exclusively designed for a very specific audience, has ended up becoming the leading company in the market when it comes to electric vehicles.
Even so, the firm continues with its goal of increasing the exposure of the battery-based product. For this, it has gone reaching new heights as the years have passed. One of Tesla’s latest goals has been the standardization of the electric truck. A greater number of fleets of vehicles dedicated to the transport of goods will greatly reduce the levels of pollution derived from mobility.
It is true that the Semi, their first proposal in this matter, was presented in 2017. Since then, they have come performing various updates to the catalog where this technology has been delayed. It is logical, since among Tesla’s priorities is, in the first place, the standardization of the battery-based car.
Now, the installation of the first charging point specially designed for electric trucks has caught the attention of the public. It is located in the Nevada Gigafactory and promises important advances in the field. Are we facing a new movement designed to accelerate the arrival of the Tesla electric truck? Here are some of the keys that have been known in this regard.
An important move with the arrival of the first Tesla Megacharger
Just a few weeks ago, it was possible to know how the Tesla Semi will be produced by next 2023. In this time, it is expected that the company can carry out the necessary steps to achieve a base of fast charging stations with the aim of provide an ideal service to companies that have materialized orders. In fact, it is expected that the installation of the first units could be located in the vicinity of these companies.
Now, why is the arrival of stations called Megacharger necessary? The first thing to keep in mind is that the so-called Superchargers, despite being very efficient, do not have the necessary qualities applied to this type of transport. After all, the Semi will have larger batteries, which will need greater requirements. In this sense, this model is capable of having a power of one MW.
As can be read in the specialized portal Electrek, a Megacharger is capable of providing a range close to 400 miles (643 kilometers to change) in just 30 minutes. This would allow the electric truck be an interesting option compared to traditional alternatives based on fossil fuels. It should also be noted that only a handful of companies have managed to hit these power levels.
Even so, it is important to take into account what are the problems that can arise from the use of this technology. Battery degradation is one of the greatest dangers you would face this new paradigm. In fact, it is still too early to know what the capabilities are. Will they be able to maintain their qualities if this charging system is abused in the medium term?
A technology that still has to face a series of technological problems
Tesla offers this network of Supercharger chargers for greater user convenience of use. Nevertheless, the most efficient way to obtain autonomy is to have a plug at home. In this way, it is possible to carry out charging processes that are much less harmful to the batteries. The progressive losses of autonomy can reduce the mileage to be carried out in a very noticeable way.
This, of course, is not feasible in the case of Tesla. The electric car firm is clear about the production of the electric truck, but your charging system still poses a risk to consider. The level of battery degradation is expected to be lower in the medium term than it is currently. For this, it is assumed that the new generation of batteries will be more efficient than the one currently being offered.
