Tesla began to deliver the first units of its electric heavy truck, called Semifive years after its presentation to the public, although the company has not revealed how many units it has sold.
The announcement of the delivery of the units of the Semi to the PepsiCo company was made by the CEO of Tesla, Elon Muskin an act held on Thursday night in the town of Sparks, in the state of Nevada (USA).
During the event, Musk apologized for the delay in the delivery of the first units of the Semi five years after he himself presented the truck in late 2017.
The truck is being assembled at Tesla’s Sparks Gigafactory, located outside Reno, where the manufacturer primarily produces batteries and electric motors for its cars.
The delay in the delivery of the first units of the Semi has allowed other manufacturers, such as Volvo and Daimler, to have marketed their own electric trucks.
The Semi’s main feature is the driver’s central position in the truck’s cab, rather than the traditional left-side seat.
Tesla has pointed out that the Semi has a range of 800 kilometers and that it has a fast battery charging system that is superior to that of its competitors.
