It hasn’t even been a month. The German brand has been forced to stop production of the new Volkswagen ID. Buzz at the Hannover factory due to problems detected in one of the batteries of the two electric vans. An unforeseen event that is being worked on to be resolved in a few weeks.
The production of the new Volkswagen ID. Buzz started at the beginning of this month of June with all the wind in its favor at its factory in Hannover, the same headquarters where the new generation of the Multivan is also produced, with the purpose of ensuring that the market launch is carried out to the letter, as it is scheduled for next fall. But the first unforeseen event has arisen that has forced the assembly lines to stop, from which they had already left 500 units.
According to a German newspaper, the cause has been a problem detected in the calibration of the highest capacity batteries, the one that offers 82 kWh gross and 77 kWh net, which is the usable number. According to the report to which the German source has had access, it points to a fault that affects the functionality of the battery, with cell modules that do not have the performance than they should, which can cause voltage drops at any time, as well as causing damage that can be irreparable in the useful life of the ID energy storage device. Buzz.
Deliveries of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz will not be affected
Since this problem affects quality, Volkswagen has decided to stop production and review the units already manufactured, proceeding to replace the batteries if this fault is detected. This battery is the one that offers greater autonomy, with a maximum of 425 kilometers in the case of the ID. Buzz minivan, while for the electric van it is reduced very slightly to 423 kilometers.
The new minivan, the fifth model in the Volkswagen ID. electric range, is one of the most interesting bets of the German firm, opening a new niche in the market, since it is one of the few options with this type of bodywork that will compete with electric vans of Stellantis and Renault. Volkswagen has assured that it is working to correct the problem detected with the supplier, estimating that it will restart production on week 24, that is, next week and from July 4.
An exceptional situation that will not prevent Volkswagen from achieving the production target that has been set with this model, although it will not be achieved at all this year. The manufacturer has already indicated that the annual production of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, without determining and specifying one of the two variants, will be 130,000 units, a high figure only for Europe, since for the United States it will be necessary to wait a year and a half more for the ID. Long Wheelbase Buzz a reality.
