After winning the 2020 Oscars, in the categories of Best Film, Best Direction and Best Original Screenplay, the South Korean filmmaker behind parasites prepares his return to the big screen. Currently in filming, the film Mickey 17 is responsible for this future reappearance in theaters, and although it will take more than a year to release, the participation of bong joon-ho so that we are full of excitement and stay tuned for any news that arises in the coming months. With a script by Bong Joon-ho, this upcoming feature film is an adaptation of the science fiction novel mickey7by author Edward Nashton.
“The story of the novel follows Mickey7, who is a ‘expendable‘: A disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the frozen world of Niflheim. Whenever there is a mission too dangerous – even suicidal – the crew turns to Mickey”, dictates a synopsis of the book (via Deadline). “Upon the death of an iteration, a new body is regenerated with most of its memories intact. And after six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal…and why it was the only unfilled colonial post when he accepted it.”
On the other hand, sources close to the production indicate that, considering the director’s history of adaptations, surely this film will be a very free and divergent version of the story embodied in the original literary work.
The cast
At the head of the cast is Robert Pattinson (batman), and among his co-stars include Oscar nominees steven yeun (Minari), Mark Ruffalo (Avengers: Endgame) Y Toni Collette (Between knives and secrets). The British actor also participates naomi ackiewinner of the BAFTA in 2020 for the drama series The End of the F***ing World.
About the production team
Director Bong Joon-ho, also credited for renowned science fiction titles okja (2017) and snowpiercer (2013), leads a very outstanding production team.
