Next year marks a decade since the release of GTA: V and RockstarGames hasn’t announced Grand Theft Auto 6 yet, but a Take-Two patent could have revealed some of the improvements that the next installment of this popular franchise will have. The patent in question details AI functions that would allow traffic to behave in a way realistic, with a more humane response from civilians, police and others.
Grand Theft Auto V hit the market in September 2013 and since then Rockstar Games has released it on every platform it thinks possible, so fans have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of Grand Theft Auto V. grand theft auto 6 for a long time. According to the German portal PC-Welt, the wait is due to the ambitions of Rockstar Games, since seek to revolutionize the open world genre one more time.

The German portal found a Take-Two patent with a new technology called “Systems and methods for virtual navigation in gaming environments”, developed by simon parr, Lead AI Programmer at Rockstar Games and David Hynd, Associate Director of Technology. This new technology would be responsible for Grand Theft Auto 6 NPCs behave in a more humane way, as they would be able to recognize the number of vehicles around them, at what distance and in what direction they are heading; they could detect traffic jams or citizens on the road, in order to grant a specific plan of action to each NPC.
According to the patent, the NPCs in the city they would have a better understanding of the acceleration, top speed and braking time of their vehicles, besides that they would be able to estimate the curves to take them in the right way. While in GTA: V NPCs behave erratically when a crash or explosion is generated near them, in grand theft auto 6 the AI will be more proactive, detecting crashes from many meters before.

The cops in GTA 6 would drive realistically.
Although it is believed that in addition to grand theft auto 6, Take-Two is also developing Mafia 4 and a new Read Dead Redemption, the description of the patent corresponds more to the GTA gameplay, since it describes vehicles like cars, motorcycles, boats, planes and helicopters. Thanks to this system, GTA: VI would have a much more realistic traffic system than what we see in Grand Theft Auto: V.
A list of the surrounding traffic in the area can be drawn up, and for each vehicle information related to the NPC in question is recorded. For example, the distance between two vehicles, the relative direction of travel, differences in speed, etc. Based on this information, a route to the final destination can be created.
The patent also describes the system running through the cloud, because the computation of AI drivers in the open world would consume a lot of resources and Rockstar is looking to externalize AI computation. A part of the patent describes high-speed chases, mentioning that the policemen could make u-turns instead of turning awkwardly as they do today, with systems that “they adhere to the traffic rules that are used to generate routes around them”.
What’s more: Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 could be coming to the Nintendo Switch.
An example given by the German site is as follows: If in a chase the police helicopter detects that you are heading towards a warehouse, the surrounding patrols could take a route to reach that place before you, instead of just follow your trail. This AI would also help with the positioning of roadblocks, SWAT units, and armored vehicles, so It would not be so easy to escape from the police in Grand Theft Auto 6. Additionally, civilians would also respond more realistically, retreating from roads upon detecting the sirens of a nearby patrol.
Although the patent does not explicitly say that it was made for Grand Theft Auto 6, the description of all these systems coincide with what we could expect from the next installment of RockstarGames for the new generation. The truth is that the AI systems described in this patent sound quite good, but it would be a shame if they depended on the cloud to work properly, because in this way it would not be possible to play GTA 6 offline.
at the moment so much take-two as Rockstar Games remain absolutely silent regarding grand theft auto 6 is concerned, though we could expect news after GTA:V releases on next-gen consoles later this year.
