A study revealed what would be the “ideal age gap” for couples to last longer and there is no good news for those who are more than five years apart.
What did the investigation reveal?
The research, conducted by Emory University in Atlanta, revealed that couples within five years of age are 18 percent more likely to break up than those closer in age.
In 2014, researchers analyzed 3,000 people as part of the study and concluded that the greater the age difference between couples, the more likely a separation is.
Age difference between 10 and 20 years
They indicated that if the couple were 10 years apart, there was a 39 percent chance of separating, while couples with an age difference of 20 years increased to 95 percent.
Based on the results, the researchers explained that the “ideal” age difference between the couples was one year or less.
“The study concluded that the chances of divorce dropped to just three percent for couples who were born within 12 months or less of each other,” he explains. dailymail.co.uk.
Challenges when there is an age difference
Hugo Mialon, a researcher on the study, said: “It could be that the types of couples with those characteristics are the types of couples who, on average, are more likely to divorce for other reasons.”
On the other hand, Katia Loisel, an expert in relationships and body language, revealed to FEMAIL the challenges faced by couples with age differences:
“When it comes to love, there is no magic formula, relationships are as unique as the people in them, yet couples with large age gaps face a unique set of challenges that can put their relationship at risk.”
