After almost three dry years after the premiere of the highly entertaining ‘Ready Player One’, the return of Steven Spielberg to the big screen is finally around the corner, and with three months to go before its premiere, we can finally cast a longer look thanks to spectacular new trailer of the new film adaptation of ‘West Side Story’.
King Midas goes to the musical
It takes only a glance at the scant couple of minutes that the trailer takes to realize that King Midas of Hollywood has prepared a top-notch audiovisual display in which the music will compete face to face with the, a priori, impressive direction of photography by a veteran of the stature of Janusz Kaminski, a regular collaborator of Spielberg.
With a cast headed by Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler and Rita Moreno —Oscarnated for her role as Anita in the original ‘West Side Story’ —the feature film will once again bring the celebrated 1957 Broadway musical written by Arthur Laurents, with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and inspired by the eternal ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by William Shakespeare.
The new ‘West Side Story’, which will mark Steven Spielberg’s debut in the genre, It will be released on December 10, 2021 exclusively in theaters. The truth is, few better options occur to me to prepare the Christmas campaign in the always pleasant darkness of the stalls.
