Steam has been the hegemonic gaming platform on PC for decades and despite the emergence of competition in the field of compatible games, it continues to add users to the point that it has surpassed its historical record of simultaneous players with a truly outrageous figure that makes any competitor outside or inside the PC world look like a fool.
This past weekend, Steam managed to break its record for simultaneous players and surpass the barrier of 30 million players connected at the same time. Without a doubt, a huge feat that shows how well Valve is doing both with Steam and with its portable console, Steam Deck.
Steam perpetuates its leadership on PC
As we can see in the database of steamdbSteam managed to break the historical record for simultaneous users by bringing together a total of 30,032,005 users during yesterday. In the graph we can see that Steam users remain more or less stable throughout the week and rise slightly on weekends. On Saturday he touched the 30 million barrier and it was on Sunday when he ended up surpassing it.
If we look at the graph below, it is surprising huge growth of Steam in the last decade, going from 5 million simultaneous players in 2012 to more than 30 million achieved this weekend. We’ll see in another 10 years how things continue.
Undoubtedly, the enormous success of Steam has been to bring together the vast majority of developers and publishers in the industry on one platform, democratize gaming on PC with seasonal sales days where you can save good money on your favorite games and, more recently, its commitment to virtual reality and the launch of Steam Deck to play your Steam library on the go.
Of course, we cannot forget that Valve also had a time when it made video games and was successful with Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress or DOTA 2. After the enormous success of Half-life: Alyx for virtual reality, it seems that Valve has returned to development and the company claims that it is already working on several projects, although at the moment there are no specific details about it.
