Static presentation of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Cayonero returns

This week we have been able to attend the static presentation of the fifth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee in Valencia. It will be available at the end of the year in our market with a single mechanism and prices that make it a very interesting option.

keeping the essence

The new Grand Cherokee doesn’t lie with its name. It’s big and, like a good American SUV, it doesn’t bother to hide its proportions. It is a car with a length of 4.91 meters long, 2.15 meters wide (with open mirrors) and a wheelbase that has been increased by 50 mm compared to the previous generation, now reaching the 2.96 meters of battle.

It is a car that is also very tall, although its height can vary thanks to its new Quadra-Lift air suspension which gives you a ground clearance of 27.8 cm and a wading height of 61 cm. The suspension will vary its height automatically depending on the conditions in which we find ourselves, that said, we can also adjust the height manually in one of the controls that we find in the center console that I also have to say that it has a very pleasant touch .

Together with the Quadra-Lift system, the Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II systems with electronic limited-slip rear differential (eLSD) are added. Both systems come equipped with an active transfer case that is responsible for improving traction by distributing engine torque to the wheel with more grip. Very smart.

One mechanic to rule them all

I have to admit that I have not been completely honest with you when talking about the model since I have left their surnames in the inkwell. In Europe, and of course, in Spain, the model that will be marketed will be the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid. This mechanic will be the only one available in each and every one of the finishes model launch.

Its name says it all but this is what in my opinion makes it very interesting and can put it on the radar of many of your potential clients. It features a 2.0-liter turbocharged combustion engine that is part of the Stellantis Global Medium Engine family. In combination with the electric motor it achieves a power of 380 hp and 637 Nm of torque.

The key here is that where the Jeep Grand Cherokee would consume the most, which is in urban areas, you can make use of the electric motor that allows you to travel up to 51 km on a single charge and 48 km in combined cycle.

Technology and security

When we enter the new Grand Cherokee we still have that high position and certain details that make it very American. In the case of the version that I was seeing, it was the top-of-the-range finish Summit Reserve, and it came with everything. The interior has a good technological package in which we find a 10.1-inch digital speedometer together with a renewed multimedia system that we will control from the 10.25-inch touch screen located in the center of the console in a position perhaps something goes down yes, cWe have separate controls to adjust the climate control, which for me is already a point in its favor.

The finishes are very good, although there are areas with hard plastic where a more pleasant material in areas such as where the driver’s knee rests would make it much more comfortable, especially on long trips. But aside from that, the fit of the materials is very goodthere are no gaps between panels and everything feels very solid when you touch it or move around inside it.

At the security level, the new generation has over 110 advanced active and passive safety featuresa. Among them we find the LaneSense lane departure warning, the adaptive cruise control with Stop and Go, and so on.

Prices and availability

Although the first units will not arrive until the end of 2022, it can already be purchased with the four available finishes. Starting from the Limited access version to the Summit Reserve version.

Another interesting fact to keep in mind is that the available options are not very extensive, so unlike many of its competitors where the options can trigger the price of the model, here the difference between the access version and the top version is 16,000 euros.

Speaking of the top-of-the-range version, through installments the Summit Reserve finish can be purchased for 899 euros per month or through the renting service in which all services are included for 1,100 euros per month (not including VAT).
