Triangle Strategy and Liv a Live will feature this visual style when they debut on Nintendo Switch.
After the great reception of the remake of the classic Live a Live announced in last Nintendo Direct, Square Enix does not close the door to new HD-2D remakes of some of his most classic games. At least that is what the Japanese company seems to indicate in a recent event.
During a live broadcast on the occasion of the SQEX Asano Team Development Radio on February 17, Square Enix shared its interest in releasing more HD-2D remakes of their old NES games (via Siliconera). According to the participants of this talk, the president of Square Enix, Yosuke Matsuda, wants to bet on more titles that use this HD-2D style. Which led the team to brainstorm to find classic games that could be well adapted to this style. The two most viable options were Live a Live and ActRiser.
They ultimately settled on Live a Live, although ActRiser also featured a remake in 2021, albeit not in HD-2D style. This technique is defined by use 2D character models that stand out against 3D CG backgrounds. This technique was used in Octopath Traveler and has been used again upcoming releases like Triangle Strategy and Live to Live. According to these statements, it might not be the last time that a Square Enix game bets on this style.
To enjoy this beautiful HD-2D style of Triangle Strategy and Live a Live, we will have to wait until March 4, 2022 and July 22, 2022, when they go on sale for Nintendo Switch, respectively. Undoubtedly, a great way to revive JRPG classics, updating its aesthetic section while maintaining the retro pixelart style of Square Enix games for NES. Take a look at our final impressions of Triangle Strategy for the Nintendo Switch.
