It’s been almost a month since ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ hit theaters. Since then it has had time to become the eighth highest grossing film of all time and a milestone that is very difficult to repeat. One of the keys to this was that it was a great event, something that could have been spoiled by the leaks that were made months before its premiere, true or not.
Beware of spoilers from here on.
One of the big spoilers was the return of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire giving life to their respective incarnations of the superhero. Garfield had to deny his participation in the film on many occasions and has now revealed in a talk with The Wrap how he and Sony reacted to this fact:
I worked really hard to keep it a secret that I was shooting in Atlanta. There were all these leaks and I reacted like “OMG what the hell is going on? I’m working hard to do it secretly and there is that picture of me with Tobey Maguire!” And they said “No, no, we’re going to keep it a secret.” “Okay, I’ll keep denying it.”
The protagonist of ‘Tick, tick … Boom!’ has no problem admitting that it was “quite stressful but also strangely funny“and he began to think that what he would want is that”the actor does an amazing job convincing me he’s not in the movie. And then lose my mind at the movies when my instinct is proven correct“, also adding the following:
I was happy to do it, but it was a lot of work for all parties. It obviously gave people a great time in theaters, and what more can you ask for from the movie experience than something like that?
The one who has not yet spoken on the matter is Maguire, but it sure does not take long to do so. At the latest on the occasion of the premiere of ‘Extrapolations’, the series in which he shares the limelight with Marion Cotillard, Forest Whitaker and Eiza González.
