As one of the world’s oldest and most widely consumed fermented beverages, it’s no wonder beer grabs headlines when the country hosting the World Cup bans alcohol in stadiums. Qatar is precisely the country where it comes out more expensive to buy a beeras the map from a recent report analyzing beer prices around the world shows.
Taking advantage of the celebration of the aforementioned FIFA World Cup, and the inevitable association made of soccer macro-events with beer consumption, the HelloSafe platform has produced a report dedicated to the global price index for this alcoholic beverage. For this they have compared the prices of 81 countries to determine where the most expensive beer is sold in Europe and around the world, or at least an approximation of it.
According to the study, this drink has experienced an international price rise of 10%, on average, in the last year. Worldwide, Qatar is the country where it will be more expensive to get a bottle -if you can find where to buy it and consume it without problems-, with a price of 6.35 euros the unit of 33 cl. in the tail is Myanmar (Burma), where a bottle costs only 24 cents. Spain is ranked 41st in the world table.
At the European level, it is Norway the country that leads beer prices, at about 3.42 euros. In Spain the average cost of a bottle is 1.20 eurowhich leaves it in 12th position among our continental neighbors, surpassing Germany, Italy or France.
The HelloSafe report, a financial product comparison platform, has taken as reference the average prices of a 33cl bottle of Heineken beer, for being one of the most common and widespread throughout the world. For this, they have been based on the prices published by Global Product Price, Numbeo and research in local supermarkets in the 81 countries, without taking into account the restaurant sector.
