The POT once again promotes one of its most inclusive projects: the Space Apps Challenge, where participants from all over the world can create applications from open data from the North American aerospace agency.
On October 1 and 2, Saturday and Sunday, experts and amateurs can work to come up with ingenious solutions to real-world challenges. Winners get trips to NASA headquarters in the United States and to Cape Canaveral.
In total there are more than 320 cities in the world that will receive the, until now, more than 180 thousand participants from 181 countries.
In 2022, the space organizations of Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay joined recognized entities from around the world. This contest is managed by the Earth Sciences Division – Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington.
“Space Apps Challenge is an international hackathon for coders, scientists, designers, storytellers, creators, builders, technologists and others in cities around the world, where teams participate in NASA’s free open data program to address real-world problems on Earth and in space.” explains the organization on its portal.
The theme of the NASA International Space Apps Challenge 2022
This year’s theme is “Make space!”, in order to eliminate barriers to access to space, generating more and more scientific opportunities. “Participants from all over the world”, says the organization of the event, “You are welcome, regardless of your background and experience to create, explore, learn and build together.”
Since 2012, over the years, the themes of the Space Apps Challenge range from space technology, robotics, environment and climate impact to agrotech, current and future social challenges of planet Earth.
After the hackathon, NASA experts evaluate the project submissions. The finalists, two per venue, will go to the international instance, where the best will be selected for the 10 global awards.
In 2021, 6 global prizes were awarded among more than 2,800 projects presented by 28,286 participants.
