Sony has decided to join companies like Microsoft, Activision, Netflixand Twitter that have suspended their services and sales of products in Russia. The Japanese firm stated that, due to the conflict with Ukrainethey will be suspending the sale of both hardware and software of PlayStation in this country. That also includes the playstation storewhich will be temporarily disabled.
The news was confirmed by a representative of Sonywhich in declarations for CNBCmentioned that the company will suspend all shipments of hardware and software in the country, as well as the launch of Gran Turismo 7. They will also make a significant donation to various humanitarian organizations.
“Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has joined the global community in demanding peace in Ukraine.
To support humanitarian institutions, Sony Group Corporation announced a donation of $2 million dollars to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the international non-governmental entity, Save the Children, to support the victims of the tragedy.
According to people familiar with the industry, this move by Sony will have a strong impact on Russiaas the Japanese brand has one of the strongest presences of any other entertainment brand in this country.
