FromSoftware announces its expansion into new markets thanks to the agreement with Sony and Tencent.
If just a few days ago we discovered the acquisition of Save Game Studios by Sony, now we have learned that the Japanese company has increased its stake in the developer FromSotware **together with the giant Tencent. Thus, **Sony now owns 14.09% of the developer of Elden Ring, while Tencent, through its subsidiary Sixjoy, owns 16.25%. However, the Japanese study continues to be dominated by the majority shareholder Kadokawa, who owns 69.66% of the company.
Nowadays, FromSoftware is considered one of the best third-party developers in the world after having carried sagas like Souls or titles like Bloodborne or Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. However, the one that has become one of its greatest milestones has been Elden Ring, a clear candidate to become the Game of the Year after being considered a masterpiece that redefines the open world genre.
Although the amount for which the acquisition of just over 30% of the studio’s rights has been made is unknown, President Kadokawa mentioned that FromSoftware “will aim proactively invest in developing more powerful gaming IP to strengthen studio development capabilities“. Likewise, “it will seek to establish a framework that allows the expansion of the scope of its own publication in the global market in significant growth“.
In this way, the FromSoftware studio will be able to increase its capacity to develop even more powerful projects of the last ones we’ve seen, which is really surprising.
FromSoftware expansion kicks off today
Thanks to this acquisition, FromSoftware intends to go further. “For an increase in the number of users in the global market of gaming IPs that FromSoftware creates and develops, it was decided to carry out the assignment of third parties to Sixjoy within the Tencent Group, which is strong in its capabilities to develop and deploy mobile gaming and other network technologies in the global market, including China“.
In this way, while Tencent will facilitate the inclusion of new markets, Sony will offer its strength “in its capabilities to implement IP in games, videos and other media in the global market“In fact, the Japanese are taking their games to the cinema and series, with Horizon Zero Dawn for Netflix being the last one that has offered news.
Of course, the FromSoftware movement is most surprising to see itself expanded. Also, the success of Elden Ring must have been key to realizing this interest by Sony and Tencent.
