Patrick Spence, CEO of Sonos, doesn’t seem to fear Amazon and Google. At least, in terms of the audio segment. The head of the company has asserted in the usual call to investors after presenting the latest quarterly results, which Neither of the two big tech companies is doing “nothing interesting” in this area. He expects, therefore, that his company will get more and more share in the global audio market, valued at 96,000 million dollars.
Spence notes that over the past quarter, which has been “the height of consumer electronics and audio season,” he hasn’t seen stiff competition. “The big tech players, we just haven’t seen them active and we haven’t seen them…you know, doing anything interesting”, it states. Precisely, neither Amazon nor Google, two of the most important companies in terms of smart audio devices – Amazon, for its Echo, and Google, for its Nest equipment -, have announced a new hardware product during the last three months.
The CEO of Sonos is also disregarding Apple and its new HomePod. Mainly, because it is a product announced during the month of January and, therefore, it does not correspond to the quarterly period that coincides with the Christmas season. But also because he, he hints at him, he doesn’t think it’s an interesting device. “We never want to get too confident in these things, but you know, even looking at what has come out of Apple recently, I couldn’t be more excited or confident about the product roadmap we have in place. and our ability to take more and more of that $96 billion [los cuales corresponden al mercado global de audio]”, has said.
Sonos CEO confirms new product categories
Patrick Spence has also revealed Sonos’ intention to announce new product categories, and has confirmed that one of them will arrive this year. “I think there are others who are probably questioning their investments in this space, and we are investing in four new categories. We are going to raise the bar on our existing categories. We have a lot to do ”, she highlighted.
Everything indicates that this new product category that will arrive in the coming months will correspond to the Sonos Era 300 and Era 100, two previously filtered audio equipment that will arrive with a completely renewed design and much more advanced functions than the rest of the company’s devices, including compatibility with spatial audio and Dolby Atmos. Sonos, however, also plans to announce over-ear headphones that would inherit some of the star features of the brand’s speakers.
