During lactation, it is important to pay attention to the amounts and eat more natural and healthy foods, and less those that do not contribute much to your body, such as processed foods.
SHOULD I HAVE A SPECIAL DIET WHILE BREASTFEEDING?
You need to know that your body burns around 500 kilocalories daily. There are those who believe that certain foods during lactation help milk production, however, there is no evidence that this is true.
What is proven is that feeding your baby increases milk production.
TRY TO AVOID THESE FOODS:
These foods could make your baby irritable or colicky.
- Fried
- Greasy
- Dairy products
- Irritants
- Spicy or highly seasoned food
- Refreshments
- Coffee
- Herbal teas (prefers fruit ones)
- Alcoholic drinks
- Chocolate in large quantities
- Raw seafood and fish
- Foods rich in sugar
It is recommended not to consume alcoholic beverages during lactation because it does pass into milk. If there is a special occasion and you decide to drink something, it should only be a glass of wine or a small beer. To reduce your baby’s exposure to alcohol, avoid breastfeeding two to three hours after you consumed your glass of wine. You don’t need to express your milk and discard it.
Remember, it is recommended to establish breastfeeding during the first six weeks of the baby’s life, that is, that the baby take the milk directly from his mother’s breast. Soon you will begin to know him well and how he communicates with you. You will feel more confident in responding to your baby’s needs and nurturing that attachment relationship with him.
This way the baby will tell mom how much milk to make to satisfy her. A healthy diet is your best ally. Eat and drink liquids according to your body’s request.
Remember that in hot weather, your baby will also feel very thirsty and will ask for more milk.
Have you noticed that some food is heavy for your baby?
