It is rare but not impossible that we hear of pregnancies in which women do not have any symptoms or signs that indicate that they are in the sweet wait and it is until the moment of delivery when they realize what is happening in their body.
This is all too well known to Janice Kerwick, 43, who arrived at the hospital to have her emergency appendix removed only to discover that she was actually eight months pregnant.
Janice Kerwick spent several months with severe and constant abdominal pain and after taking three negative pregnancy tests and a series of studies, doctors diagnosed her with appendicitis.
The pain increased over time to the point that Janice was referred for emergency surgery and just before she went into surgery she found out she was eight months pregnant and only two hours away from giving birth.
I found out I was pregnant just two hours before I had my C-section. At first I felt numb, as if I couldn’t accept what was happening to me.
I immediately called Daniel, in a few minutes he stopped what he was doing and got in the car. I called my parents and they thought I was kidding. I just told them: ‘No, mom, in a couple of hours you’re going to be a babysitter.’
The news was disconcerting for her and her husband Daniel, since for more than 10 years they tried to have a child, but it was not possible. Now a baby came into her life unexpectedly, changing and giving a new meaning to everything they knew.
After giving birth, Janice spent a few days in the hospital and her baby was in an incubator because he was born at eight months of gestation. Fortunately for both of them, everything went wonderfully and they returned home to start a beautiful family. Janice says that she never had symptoms of a pregnancy. In addition, he went to the doctor for check-ups and not even they were able to detect it. However, she feels blessed because she has achieved her dream in the company of her husband and in a unique way.
I went from believing I was infertile and had appendicitis to being told I was two hours away from having a baby. We were both completely shocked. I didn’t believe it until I had Arabella in my arms.
It sounds exaggerated, but I really had no idea that I was pregnant. She had dropped a dress size, had felt no kicks, and had three negative pregnancy tests. After so many years wanting to have a baby, we stopped thinking that this could be possible.
The new mother assures that in all this time she did not use fertility treatments or any other method to get pregnant, since she had already experienced several disappointments in the past. For this reason, she has called her baby a miracle girl and hopes that other couples in the same situation have the joy of living what she and her husband Daniel have.
