The agenda for the 10th North American Leaders Summit shows two bilateral and one trilateral meeting.
It is hoped that Mexico can remain within the power of North America without neglecting ties with other countries.
They will discuss with Joe Biden issues of migration, trade, labor mobility and equal distribution of goods to reduce poverty in the Americas.
Today, the Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, during the press conference “La Mañanera”, presented the agenda that will cover the tenth Summit of North American Leaders. This after a long wait and in the midst of tensions regarding the issue of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), where there was even speculation about the departure of Mexico.
Now it is known when it will be, where it will take place, and what will be discussed on the subject, also presenting the complete agenda of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).
The foreign minister, Marcelo Ebrard, presented this morning the complete agenda of the issues that will be discussed in view of the tenth summit of leaders with the aim of strengthening ties in the area and highlighting this area as the greatest world power.
Likewise, he finally confirmed the date on which this meeting will take place, noting that it will be next January 10, 2023. With this, he also assured that the venue will be the National Palace, in Mexico City.
The foreign minister said that in the first instance it is intended that President López Obrador have a bilateral meeting with Joe Biden, who will arrive in Mexico on January 9 in Mexico City, confirming the first visit by a US president in many years.
The trilateral meeting will be, on the other hand, on January 10, with the presence of the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau. In the same way, it was notified that a third bilateral meeting between the head of the Executive and the Canadian minister is being contemplated.
Among the priorities of the Mexican administration, according to what the foreign minister said, are discussing measures to combat poverty and inequality that is growing in the Americas, partly due to the effect of the pandemic and economic inequality.
“From the Mexican perspective, it is going to be proposed, as President López Obrador discussed with Senator Dodd, now on his recent visit and Canadians have also been consulted, that the alliance be built for the prosperity of the peoples in Las Americas”.
The central objective will be the fight against poverty and achieve a more equal distribution of resources, according to what was said by the Mexican foreign minister. What stands out is that, according to his words, the proposal is to keep Mexico within the greatest power in the world, which is North America, without forgetting the ties and respect with other peoples.
