By now in 2021, even if it’s just getting started, the premiere of the third season of Sex Education should be just around the corner. Or at least that was what was expected before the Covid-19 pandemic paralyzed and delayed the filming of practically everything. Finally, we will have to wait for a new date that has not yet been announced by Netflix, but the protagonist of the successful youth fiction, Asa Butterfield, has advanced an important detail about the new installment: that it will experience a jump in time.
As the young interpreter has explained in statements to The Guardian, the followers of the series in which he stars alongside Emma Mackey should not expect the story to pick up exactly from the point where the second installment left it, despite the final ‘cliffhanger’ . On the contrary, Season 3 of Sex Education will jump in time to meet Otis back at school and with a lot of fabric to cut beyond his friendship and possible love story with Maeve. According to the actor, Otis has matured a bit since the second installment and has also become a bit more cheeky.
There is a bit of a time jump from the cliffhanger of season 2. Otis is back in school but they have different things on the plate. It has grown a bit and has become more daring. It has been a lot of fun portraying that newfound charisma. Don’t worry, no osbtante, it’s still tragically weird too
What can we expect from Otis and Maeve’s relationship in season 3? After an act of betrayal prevented them from confessing their feelings once and for all and with the confirmed time jump, there is no doubt that the misunderstanding will not be resolved immediately, far from it. Dammit. In fact, the two will most likely continue in a constant tug of war throughout the season until fans can finally get something good out of these characters in constant love conflict.
In addition, Butterfield’s statements make it clear that Otis will have many other needs to attend to and we will have to see how these new facets of his personality come into play.
After delaying filming from April to September, the third season of Sex Education is already among the most anticipated Netflix original series, although the platform has not announced a probable release date for the new episodes. Mind you, it looks like we can expect more Otis and Mave in 2021.
