The first night practice session of the 24 Hours of Spa ended with the # 8 Toyota in the lead from the time table. The Swiss Sébastien Buemi was the pilot in charge of setting the best lap of the LMH of the Japanese brand after stopping the clock in 3: 29.351. Three tenths behind the Toyota # 7, thus closing the double of the Japanese firm in the second free practice session of the queen of the WEC. In a training session in which all five hypercars finished in the lead, Jota’s Oreca # 38 has set the standard in LMP2, while among the GTE the scepter of command has been to WeatherTech Racing Porsche # 79.
Two hours of free practice under the stars to close the first day of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A session in which the hypercars have made their mechanical superiority clear. Among the five protagonists of the queen category, Sébastien Buemi has put the # 8 Toyota in the lead, although Brendon Hartley was the second fastest driver of the session, also with # 8. In fact, the Toyota # 7 was three tenths, while the SGC 007 LMH # 708 was third to almost eight. Fourth has finished Alpine # 36, leaving Glickenhaus # 709 in fifth place.
Regarding the LMP2 category, the protagonist of the session was Anthony Davidson with the Oreca # 38 of the Jota Sport team after setting a time of 3: 32.390. The British rider was two tenths faster than the best time of the Oreca # 70 of the RealTeam team. For its part, United Autosports Oreca # 22 finished in third position, with G-Drive Aurus # 25 in fourth place in the hands of Nyck de Vries, first World Champion of Formula E. With a fifth place and a track start, DragonSpeed’s Oreca # 21 has experienced its particular version of lime and sand.
Among the GTE, Laurens Vanthoor has placed WeatherTech’s # 79 Porsche at the top of the timeline with a time of 3: 49.019. The Belgian’s time, set in the last 30 minutes of training, was almost nine tenths faster than the best time recorded by the # 91 Porsche. Tercero has finished Miguel Molina’s Ferrari # 52, although it is true that the Italian GTE has suffered a puncture when Daniel Serra was at the wheel. With the car stopped, the red flag caused by # 52 has also shown some problems on the # 63 Corvette.
Finally, the LMGTE-Am category has been led by the # 88 Dempsey-Proton Porsche thanks to the best lap from Julien Andlauer. Just behind the Rinaldi Racing Ferrari # 88 from veteran Jeroen Bleekemolen. For its part, Team Project 1’s # 56 Porsche finished third, with Matteo Cairoli at his controls. However, the German team has not finished with good feelings after seeing how their other GTE, # 46, suffered a problem that made him stay stopped on the track and cause the red flag that ended the session.
