Sean Johston will be present again in the silver category of the World Rally Championship in 2022 by renewing its link with the Saintéloc Racing and Citroën teams. The North American pilot will be like this at the controls of one of the Citroën C3 Rally2 of the French structure within the WRC2 category, which has seen him compete in the World Championship in the last two years. It will be Johston’s fourth campaign with Saintéloc Racing, thus confirming the close bond that it maintains with the French squad since leaving the German National and the Junior WRC.
Maybe Johston is not at the competitive level of the Mikkelsen, Bulacia, Gryazin or Ostberg, but the American pilot has become a classic of the category. After competing in 2018 in the ADAC Opel Rally Cup in the German National and completing his training in 2019 within the ERC3 category of the European Rally and JWRC, Johston made the leap to the second tier of rallying in 2020 from the hand of Saintéloc Racing. With a Citroën C3 R5 he began to take advantage of the WRC3 category of the World Championship and in the European before competing in the last two seasons in WRC2.

Hand in hand with Saintéloc Racing and with the new Citroën C3 Rally2, Johston made his WRC2 debut in the 2021 season, year in which he disputed six appointments within the category. Monte Carlo, Arctic Rally, Italy, Estonia, Greece and the RACC Rally were part of its sports program, as well as a meeting with the French National to close the season. His best result in the World Championship was 17th overall in both the Monte Carlo Rally and the Acropolis Rally. In the ‘Monte’, his performance also translated into a fifth place in the WRC2 class, the same result he obtained in the RACC Rally.
Looking ahead to the new season, Johston hopes to draw a show similar to last season’s. The 31-year-old American driver will thus begin his journey with his usual co-driver, Alex Kihurani, in the Monte Carlo Rally. At the moment, neither Johston nor Saintéloc Racing have confirmed the rest of the tests in which Sean will be present: «I can’t wait to start the season at the Monte Carlo Rally. It is a rally that we have run for the last two years with Saintéloc. The good thing when you drive for a French team in this rally is that the preparation is always excellent. Saintéloc has a lot of experience in this event, so I will be well prepared».
