In the month of April you have to make the annual tax declaration imposed by the Tax Administration Service (SAT), same that corresponds to the fiscal year 2022. However, after said process you can also request a tax refund.
In this sense, the taxpayer could have access to a favorable balance. In other words, the tax authorities give you the alternative of requesting that a certain amount of money be returned to you, as long as it is authorized.
Likewise, it will allow you to recover amounts in favor of Value Added Tax (VAT); Income tax (ISR), Special tax on production and services (IEPS), among others.
However, you may be wondering how long you have to file for a tax refund. Here we tell you the details to know the time, how to do it and what you need for the tax authority to make said refund.
What does the SAT ask me for the refund?
The tax office has a set of requirements to request the balance in favor of return, they are the following:
- Current or portable electronic signature.
- The taxpayer must prepare information that he will attach to his return request in zip format and will pay attention to each of the files so that they are not larger than 4 MB.
- If there are VAT refunds, you should consider the informative declaration of operations with third parties for the corresponding period.
- You need the account issued by the financial institution that does not exceed two months and must have the RFC of the person submitting the application, in addition to the active account number (CLABE).
The process will be carried out through a platform designed for this purpose.

The Treasury indicates that the estimated time is five years from the date on which the balance in favor or improper payment was generated.
