Samsung It is a brand that has managed to gain the trust of its consumers over time thanks to its stability and consistency with the release of Android updates and constant security patches.
Before, at the beginning of the Galaxy S family, the story was very different and unfortunate. But actually the South Korean company has been exceptionally course correcting lately.
So today, by default, any Samsung smartphone that is purchased by consumers when it is first launched on the market is guaranteed for four years of updates to its mobile operating system and an additional year of updates with patches.
That is why the company has stolen the headlines of some sites in the last few hours, since, out of nowhere, it has just released a new update for models that are more than five years old.
The Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S7 Edge get a surprise update
It was the first months of 2016 when at FayerWayer we had the opportunity to do a comprehensive analysis of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
At that time we excitedly received the ability of your camera to support video at 4K resolution and the integration of a night mode that, seen from a distance, looked in diapers.
Although the detail of its curved screen was not as brutal a distinguishing factor as the form factor of the Z Fold and Z Flip family can be.
Still, the smartphone became one of our favorites of its generation and we deeply regret when it officially stopped receiving updates in 2020.
But Samsung just gave us an absolute unexpected surprise. Since the manufacturer has released a 31 MB firmware update.
This is the update G93*FXXU8EVG3, the second unscheduled update since Samsung withdrew support for the device in the spring of 2020.
Interestingly, as reported by our friends at SAMMOBILE the patch is not a security patch, but rather, as the update itself describes, it focuses on improving GPS stability.
Those who have used the device in recent years will have just noticed that there were details to improve in that section, especially in extreme or rough use scenarios.
The most striking thing is that Samsung is actually launching patches to improve its GPS in models more or less close to the S7 family, since the Galaxy S9 recently received a similar patch.
