Samsung Electronics has announced the availability of Google Duo in its new Samsung Neo QLED and QLED TVs, allowing to carry out video calls using the TV screen as the main interface of the application.
The implementation of Google Duo on Samsung Smart TVs allows you to hold videoconferences with up to 32 participants simultaneous regardless of the devices they use, although yes, we must have a TV and with a compatible webcam. Which ones does the service support right now?
Well, in televisions, those that are compatible for now are the Neo QLED models of this 2021 (QN900A, QN800A, QN95A, QN90A and QN85A), as well as the models QLED 2021 (Q80A, Q75A and Q74A), and The Frame 2021 (LS03A).
As for the cameras, according to Samsung we can use the following models: Logitech C920, C920s, C920-C, C922, C922x, C925e, C930e, C930C and StreamCam. In the words of Nacho Monge, Samsung’s CE business director for Spain and Portugal:
As people spend more time at home, communication with coworkers, family or friends is done through platforms. In this way, devices with a large screen – such as televisions – have become essential. At Samsung, we continue to redefine the role of the television, developing new functions around the needs of our users, such as video calls with Google Duo, to make everyday life much easier.
Steps to follow to make a video call
To make video calls from a Samsung Smart TV compatible with Google Duo it is necessary to follow the following steps:
- First connect a compatible webcam directly to a free USB port on the TV. At this time the TV will recognize the camera and will show a notification to the user offering the option to open it directly.
- Then we must follow the steps shown on the screen and select video call option, at which point the Google Duo application will open automatically.
- In addition, it will be necessary to previously have the Google Duo mobile app, have added the Duo account to the Google Account and that the TV and mobile are connected to the same WiFi network.
- Next, we must log in to the Google Duo application from the smartphone and select the desired contacts to make the video call from the TV.
Alternatively to these steps, we can also choose to download from the Samsung Smart TV application store the Google Duo app and install it directly on the TV. After logging into the Google Duo mobile app, it will be possible to log into the TV and make video calls.
To do this, in the Google Duo mobile application it is necessary to go to the menu located in the upper right corner and select Settings> Account> Sign in to the TV.
In addition to being able to make full-screen video calls, it is possible to view other content at the same time thanks to the Multi View function, which allows dividing the TV screen into up to four parts in the Neo QLED 8K models and into two parts in the rest of the range, adjusting the audio volume of each video. Thus, it is possible, for example, to watch a soccer game while we see the comments on social networks and talk with a friend.
