On Tuesday, Ryan Wyatt, YouTube’s head of gaming, announced that he would be leaving the video-sharing platform in February. Thanks in part to his leadership, YouTube Gaming has more than 250 million daily users with hundreds of billions of hours of viewing each year. Wyatt cited his passion for blockchain and Web3 development to explain his resignation. He will soon join Polygon Studios as its CEO.
Polygon Studios is the gaming and non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, arm of the Ethereum scaling network that bears its name. Polygon (MATIC) plans to commit $100 million to projects led by its subsidiary studio, which debuted last July. The company’s goals are to develop decentralized gaming, attract blockchain enthusiasts to its ecosystem of NFT tokens, and establish Polygon as a competent blockchain for the transition to Web3. Regarding his new role, Wyatt said:
“I will focus on growing the developer ecosystem through developer investment, marketing and support, and bridging the gap between Web 2.0 and 3.0. I will lead the Polygon Studios organization in the areas of gaming, entertainment, fashion, news and sports, among others”.
