Ryan Reynolds, now acclaimed for his role as Deadpool, got off to a rough start in the superhero genre more than ten years ago, due to the infamous movie live action of Green Lantern that he starred in. With a failing grade of 26% in Rotten Tomatoes, this tape is usually listed among the worst adaptations of comics about masked vigilantes. And to top it all off, it was a resounding flop at the box office, grossing only $219 million globally, compared to its high budget of $200 million.

What’s more, the Canadian actor himself perceives that the biggest mistake about Green Lantern (2011) was precisely trying to solve with seas of money those problems that came from the script and that nobody bothered to correct.

This was stated by the celebrity during a recent chat with Rob Delaney, within the framework of the Just For Laughs comedy festival in London (via Variety):

“There were too many people spending too much money. When there were problems, instead of saying, ‘Okay, let’s stop spending on special effects and think about the character. How do we replace this great show, which is not quite working, with something based on the characters?’, [en realidad] It was never thought of doing that.”

On the other hand, Ryan Reynolds was sympathetic about the way in which those responsible for Green Lantern They decided to manage the budget.

“To his credit, it must be said that [gastar por gastar] It’s a very old way of looking at things. It was simply, ‘Let’s continue to spend our way.’ And it didn’t work,” added the interpreter.

On the other hand, Reynolds still fondly remembers the filming of that unfortunate film by director Martin Campbell, which at least meant fun for everyone involved in the production, according to the actor.

“At the same time, there were 185 people working on that movie and they all had a great time. We loved filming it. Really, shooting the movie was a lot of fun. But, you know, sitting down at the premiere and seeing that… Oh my gosh, it was tough.”

And about his feelings towards the negative comments he received Green Lanternadded:

“It was crazy. It was a strange feeling. It was not a feeling he wanted to repeat. So I spent the next few years acknowledging [los defectos de la película] everything he could. It was the only way to process it.”

In other news, let’s remember that the popular superhero with the emerald ring —from DC comics— will have a second chance in the audiovisual field thanks to the upcoming television series lanternsa project confirmed in January 2023 by James Gunn, co-chairman of DC Studios, and which will focus on the characters Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

For his part, Ryan Reynolds is still preparing for Deadpool 3 before filming began, having Hugh Jackman back in Wolverine’s shoes. Directed by Shawn Levy, this third installment of the Merc with a Mouth is expected to hit theaters on November 8, 2024.

Antonio G. Spindola I have very bad memory. Out of solidarity with my memories, I choose to lose myself too. Preferably in a movie theater.
