Once the testing phase is complete, the ‘Sarmat’ will become part of the Strategic Missile Forces and, in fact, the first regiment responsible for its potential use is already being trained in Krasnoyarsk. Its range is estimated between 17,000 and 18,000 kilometers.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is confident that this new missile will make those who are trying to “threaten” Russia think and has warned that the ‘Sarmat’ can circumvent all current defense systems. In this sense, he has assured that there will not be a similar technology for a long time.
This reinforcement of weapons is linked to the Russian claim for its arsenal in the midst of a military offensive in Ukraine. Putin went so far as to put the nuclear forces on alert in the days after the invasion, although for now his government maintains that it will never cross this red line.
