Social media users are swirling around rumors that Twitter is looking into introducing its own native asset called “Twitter Coin”, which will be used for payments and tips on the platform.
Some cite initial reports from sources such as Nima Owji, who runs a Twitter account dedicated to leaking information about apps.
On December 4, Owji posted a screenshot of what appears to be a prototype Twitter interface showing the “Coins” option for tipping, along with a vector image of a Twitter logo coin.

Others have pointed to tweets by tech researcher Jane Manchun Wong, who claimed to have extracted code from a specific version of the Twitter web app to find the same information as Owji.though Wong’s own post and account have since been deleted for unknown reasons.
There has also been a swarm of posts under the TwitterCoin hashtag; many people were excited, but ultimately not surprised that the platform could be working on new checkout lanes and system integrations now that Elon Musk is at the helm.

Speaking on a similar topic in a December 4 Twitter Spaces, Musk He suggested to an audience of 2.1 million listeners who were still interested in integrating cryptocurrencies with the platform.
“It is obvious that Twitter must have payments, both fiat and cryptocurrency,” he said.
As it is, Twitter has been gradually expanding its payment integrations over the past two years, and currently supports fiat tipping for a host method alongside bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH), which were integrated in September 2021. .
Since the $44 billion acquisition occurred in October, Musk has overseen a number of changes at Twitter.particularly in relation to censorship policy, information disclosure and bot activity.
