Sir Ridley Scott, the man behind movies like Blade Runner, The Gladiator, The Martian, Alien and more. Who would say that a prestigious trans director I would end up using a cell phone to make movies.
As a report published on the website of gizmodoSamsung has enlisted Scott and Korean filmmaker Na Hong-jin to make tapes with the new Galaxy S23 Ultra and thus demonstrate the power of their cameras.
In Na’s case, he’s less well known outside of South Korea, but he has some great movies to his credit like The Wailing and The Chaser.
Both used the lenses of the S23 Ultra and its main 200 MP sensor, accompanied by stabilizers and professional equipment, as if it were a traditional Hollywood production.
Behold and Faith
Scott, an industry multi-winner, was blown away by the results the new Samsung delivers.highlighting the management of lights, shadows and contrasts. With the mobile he rolled Beholda story in an urban environment full of aggressiveness, from which a boy goes out to the countryside and finds peace by meeting and interacting with a horse and giving him freedom.
For her part, Na Hong-jin made Faithwhich takes place almost completely in the dark, between shadows and very dimly lit corridors, clearly as an attempt to test the capabilities of the S23 Ultra’s camera in these low-light scenarios. He said HDR was key.
The shorts of these filmmakers have not yet been published, but behind the scenes of the respective shorts show us some sneak peeks and details about the production process, narrated by the filmmakers.
Although it is true that nowadays it is common for cell phones to record music videos, short films, and feature films, it is still surprising that directors of this caliber use them to shoot their films.
