The Batman will chronicle Bat-Man’s career during his second year of fighting crime, when one of Gotham’s threats seems to point squarely at Bruce Wayne.
The film stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson and Barry Keoghan as Stanley Merkel.
By the way, if you want to know the origin of Stanley Merkel, James Gordon’s patrol partner and who debuted in Batman #405, remember that this issue awaits you in our online store as it is part of:
DC Comics Essential Batman: Year One
In 1986, Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli produced this groundbreaking take on the origin of Batman: who he is and how he came to be. Sometimes careless and naive, this Dark Knight is far from the impeccable vigilante he is today.
In his first year on the job, Batman moves through a much darker Gotham City than the one he left. His solemn oath to extinguish crime from the city is only half the battle. Along with Lieutenant James Gordon, the Dark Knight must also battle a police force more corrupt than the scum of the streets.
Batman: Year One is, next to Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, one of the best graphic novels of all time. Timeless in its appeal, Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s masterpiece would stand out from the crowded comic book market even today.
