Twitter plans to relaunch tomorrow its disputed account identity verification system, known as “Twitter Blue,” for which users will have to pay $8 a month and $11 on request for Apple devices.
“We are relaunching ‘@TwitterBlue’ on Monday: subscribe on the web for $8/month or on iOS for $11/month to gain access to exclusive features for subscribers, including the blue checkmark,” reads a tweet issued by the company’s official account.
These users, according to the company, will receive less advertising, their tweets will have priority over messages from unverified accounts, and they will be able to post longer videos on their accounts.
Also, each time they make changes to their profile, the mark will disappear until the identity is verified again.
Thank you for your patience as we work to improve Blue. We are excited and look forward to sharing more with you soon! the company wrote in another thread.
This will be the second attempt by the new owner of Twitter, billionaire Elon Musk, to relaunch this product, which under the previous management was given free of charge.
This announcement comes after the new owner of Twitter, Elon Musk, accused Apple of withdrawing its advertising from the social network.
At the end of November, the tycoon and owner of Twitter began a campaign of messages for Apple on his account, in which he assured that “Apple has threatened to freeze Twitter from its App Store (application service for its phones) and does not give us the reasons”.
Also last November, Musk canceled the verification mark a few hours after its launch and when it was already showing off on profiles of companies, government entities and personalities.
Following his removal, Musk wrote on his profile: “Keep in mind that Twitter will do a lot of dumb things in the coming months. We’ll keep what works and change what doesn’t.”
The truth is that it was a resounding failure, and in that first attempt at Twitter, the badge ended up appearing on fake accounts and profiles that began to spread misinformation and hate messages.
The verification system prior to Musk’s arrival was created in 2009 in order to guarantee that behind influential accounts was the person or institution that they claimed to be.
