Red Bull not only wants to develop its own engine -with or without the support of Honda-, but also seeks to have several clients on the grid in 2026. The goal is to have facilities that allow four teams to motorize.
The promising union between Red Bull and Porsche was in borage water by the desire of the heavyweights of the team to maintain the independence of the project. Discarded this option, Dieter Mateschitz’s formation has decided put all the meat on the grill with its division Red Bull Powertrains and will develop its own V6 engine for the 2026 season.
An ambitious plan that is not limited to Red Bull and AlphaTauri, since the structure has given shape to facilities large enough and equipped to supply engines to four different teams. Protected by a cost limit that offers Red Bull greater room for manoeuvre, the structure will have the potential to attract customers beyond his two teams.
“Because of the way we are structured, we have the capacity in our facilities to produce engines for four teams”
Christian Horner This is what he has assured: «When we reach 2026, the budget limit will have been fully activated and the costs will become much more bearable. This measure has been essential to become a new biker. Due to the way we are structured, we have the capacity in our facilities to produce engines for four teams».
Of course, the person in charge of Red Bull clarifies that there are some logical deadlines to meet since “that will not be the initial objective. The original plan is to supply the two teams owned by Red Bull. Our train has left for 2026. We have an engine and a prototype running, we have the dynamometers ordered and we are operational. Let’s go for it.”

What about Honda?
LRed Bull’s plans do not exclude a possible collaboration with Honda if the brand decides to return to Formula 1. In the end, the brand’s electrification goals may go hand in hand with the production of the combustion engine by Red Bull: «Honda is a great company. If they consider returning to Formula 1, that would be something to keep in mind».
“Whether or not there is any interest, potentially on the battery side synergies can occur, so there could be an interesting discussion. Nevertheless, in the combustion engine section we have a roadmap for 2026 with which we are very happy» Horner clarified to reaffirm the independence of Red Bull Powertrains.
capital challenge
The challenge for Red Bull is enormous due to the complexity of the project and the direct opposition of motorcyclists with great experience: «There is a full commitment. There are people who tell us that we are completely crazy to face Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault starting from scratch. Nevertheless, that is exactly the path that Red Bull is looking for, to achieve the impossible».
“There hasn’t been such an investment in the UK for an engine factory in the last 40 years. We have attracted talent and that gives us a unique positionon a par with Ferrari, to have everything under one roof, with the synergies that are drawn. It’s a logical investment» Horner concluded.
