Wipes, diapers, pacifiers, her favorite doll. What do you need to bring to the nursery every morning and what can you keep there? Each center has its rules, but most follow similar patterns.
Feeding
Increasingly solid. From the year the mashed purées give way to “big boy” food. In some daycares parents are allowed to bring food in a container every day, in others it is not possible. The first option is usually cheaper, although it represents a waste of time. That is why it is more common for the small coma in the nursery dining room, which prepares balanced menus following the guidelines of nutrition specialists. In addition, it is common for the recipe book to be in view of the parents, so that they can consult it so as not to repeat meals at home. Of course, in case the child has any allergies or intolerances, it must be stated in writing. As for the household items (plates, spoons and glasses), the nursery usually provides it.
Hygiene
The basics: Each child usually has a locker or space in a closet where they keep some basic products that parents take at the beginning of the year, such as cream for chafing and a pair of pacifiers, if they use them.
The ones that need to be replaced: When the child starts going to kindergarten, the usual thing is to ask the parents to leave a large package of diapers and another one of wet wipes in the center, or to bring them a pair a day. A few days before those products run out, they notify the parents to replace them. Even so, in some centers it is necessary to carry them daily in the child’s backpack instead of leaving them there, so that they do not take up so much space.
Clothes
The most appropriate : The chest of drawers, in addition to the “uniform” that they usually wear in most kindergartens, is the most indicated in their day to day. The less decorations you have and the more freedom of movement you allow, the better. The use of bibs is not recommended because they complicate the time to change the diaper. In contrast, pants-style sets are the best option. Remember to mark everything with the child’s name. As for footwear, t-shirts that open and close with closures or velcro are more recommended than those with bows, cords or ties, as they prevent many falls for children and save time for educators, as they do not have to spend the day tying shoelaces. A change just in case?
In almost all nurseries they ask you to leave a complete change (body, pants, shirt, sweater and socks) in case it is needed at a certain time. And rest assured that it will be necessary! The day the child stains more than he should with food or when he has a “leak” in his diaper, they will give you the stained clothes in a plastic bag to wash at home. The next day it is important to remember to bring another change, both indoors and outdoors, that will remain in the nursery until it is needed again.
Details that help
His consolation object. In nurseries they allow the child to carry his favorite blanket or the stuffed animal he sleeps with every night if that helps him feel more secure, particularly those first days when everything is new for little ones.
The pacifier. For some children it is essential, for example, to take a nap or because it helps them calm down. With a pacifier it will be enough. When it is spent they will ask you for a new one.
