With new emerging variants and the possibility of a third wave of COVID, vaccination has become the necessity of the moment. Not only does it reduce the chances of developing serious illnesses and the risk of hospitalization, it also slows down and contains the spread of the virus.
Side Effects of Vaccines
However, due to the side effects of vaccines and the increase in the number of advances. Growing skepticism around COVID vaccines and their effectiveness has only increased and raised more concerns.
Vaccine side effects are common, but harmless
Side effects of a coronavirus vaccine are common. As worrying and expensive as the side effects of the vaccine may seem, it is harmless and diminishes within a day or two.
Fever, chills, fatigue, and pain at the injection site are some of the most common side effects, pointing to an immune response. However, there are people who are asymptomatic and do not develop symptoms.
This has left people more intrigued than ever and forced them to ask various questions about whether the side effects of the COVID vaccine determine the level of protection one has against the virus.
These side effects are manageable and generally not a cause for concern.
When should you worry?
While fever, discomfort, and arm pain remain some of the most common but harmless post-vaccination symptoms. The Center states that if a person experiences any of the new symptoms, listed by them, within 20 days of vaccination. Then they will need critical care and must see a doctor immediately.
Uncommon COVID Vaccine Symptoms Requiring Immediate Attention
According to the Center, there is a list of new symptoms that people may experience after vaccination. Which can be alarming and may require immediate medical attention.
Some of them are the following:
- Shortness of breath or trouble breathing
- Chest pain.
- Nausea, vomiting, or constant pain in the abdominal area.
- Seizures
- Pain in the limbs or swelling in the arms or feet.
- Blurry vision.
- Severe or persistent headache.
- Weakness in any part of the body.
- Scars at the injection site.
As worrisome as the side effects of the vaccine may seem, experts believe that contracting COVID-19 may be more dangerous.
The increase in the number of Delta variant infections has not only led to an increase in the number of COVID cases in and around the world, but the breakthrough cases have also increased. That said, considering that the virus can even evade the immunity of the vaccine, unvaccinated people are at a higher risk. Vaccinated people still have a lower risk of developing serious infections.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, unvaccinated people are 10 times more likely to be hospitalized for COVID-19 and more than 10 times more likely to die from it compared to their vaccinated counterpart.
