Psychonauts 2 has announced that it is now on Gold phase, which means that Tim Schaffer’s game and the rest of the Double Fine team has completed its development and it will arrive on time to its premiere of the next August 25th, just one day after the Xbox conference at Gamescom 2021.
Through Double Fine’s official Twitter account, the company has announced this milestone in the development of Psychonauts 2 that puts an end to the story of effort behind the game, as Tim Schaffer’s team had to finance the game on crowdfunding platforms before Microsoft acquired the studio three years ago, who finished funding the project and helped it grow in every respect.
It’s been a long time coming, but Psychonauts 2 has officially gone GOLD.

In this same thread, Double Fine recalls that Psychonauts 2 can now be pre-ordered and pre-installed both in its Xbox version, as in PC through Microsoft Stote and Steam, and in PlayStation 4, being backward compatible with PlayStation 5. The company remembers that it will also be available from day one on Xbox Game Pass like all Xbox Game Studios games.
Psychonauts 2 will be released on August 25, 2021 for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S and PC. Just a few days ago, Double Fine detailed the performance of the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S taking into account the differences of both versions due to the fact that It does not have a native version for the next generation Sony console. This limits some of the game’s features.
