As for adaptive triggers, capable of press the button travel to adapt to different playable situations. Aoki says the goal is “to find ways to use buttons to increase the sense of touch.” The first tests consisted of using adaptive triggers on a motion controller in virtual reality, an “incredible feeling”, in Aoki’s words, where you could see the pressure of firing a gun at the same time that you felt it in your hands thanks to the new features of the DualSense.
According to Aoki, L2 and R2 were the most used buttons of the Dualshock 4 of PlayStation 4, so the team wanted to think of a way to offer new functions to this pair of triggers ahead of the launch of the next generation of the PlayStation console and controller.
