Those times when we could get games from a console up to two generations behind seem long ago (yes, GTA V, we know that you are, but we are not talking about you). Despite the huge sales figures that Playstation 4 has under its belt, everything indicates that it will not have that long to live in commercial terms. Obviously, we can continue using it until it holds us, but it is rumored that Sony is already considering abandoning the new deliveries this system throughout the year 2023, in the tenth year of life of this game console.
This data has been raised by analyst Michael Patcher, a well-known name within the video game sector. Patcher explains in a recent YouTube video that “PS4 will continue to have some exclusives during 2022”, some of which we already know, such as Horizon Forbidden West or the next installment of God of War, because not enough Playstation 5 have been sold yet as to maximize the benefits of exclusive futures. However, in 2023, the analyst affirms that Sony will stop carrying exclusives and that, gradually, third-party studios will stop doing the same.
Being fair, ten years of life with exclusives is a more than reasonable figure. However, it is somewhat problematic to think about the generational leap in current times with high prices and shortage of stock. Regarding the price, knowing that Sony has produced it under losses, it is difficult for it to go down in a while. Regarding the stock, it is expected that supply and demand will begin to stabilize in the coming months, thanks to the possible increase in the rate of production and the stabilization of demand after the immense sales figures of its first nine months. If this event finally occurs in 2023, the most likely thing is that getting a Playstation 5 will no longer be a gymkhana.
