After several months in silence, yesterday Sony confirmed that the purchase of Crunchyroll it had been finalized for $ 1.1 billion dollars. In this way, the Japanese company adds another great anime platform to its repertoire, since Funimation is also part of them. And if that was not enough, a report indicates that this streaming service could be part of PlayStation Plus in the future.
According to Eurogamer, Sony would have plans to offer a subscription to Crunchyroll as part of a premium service for PlayStation Plus users. At the moment there is no official comment on this point. Similarly, during the statement that was shared yesterday, it is stated that the company’s goal is to create a “unified” subscription experience.
Although this sounds like a good idea that can attract more people, it does sound a bit strange that Sony uses Crunchyroll, and not Funimation, for these plans, although the popularity of this service is likely to be the key to its success. Similarly, this is likely a way to prevent the number of subscribers for PlayStation Plus from falling again. In related topics, here you can learn more about this purchase.
