“Proteo”, one of the rescue dogs of the Mexican Army that was in Turkey in search and rescue operations due to the earthquakes of February 6, died, reported the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena).
“Members of the Mexican Army and Air Force regret the loss of our great companion the dog Proteo,” said the Sedena in a post on their social networks.
“You fulfilled your mission as a member of the Mexican Delegation in the search and rescue of our brothers in Turkey. Thank you for your heroic work!” added the Sedena in memory of the rescue dog.
For his part, the Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, also lamented the loss of Proteo and thanked him for his work.
“I regret the sensitive death of Proteo, a member of the SEDENA rescue team in Turkey. He raised the name of Mexico and our people high, ”Ebrard Casaubón said in a Twitter message.
The Mexican government sent 150 specialized search elements to Turkey and rescue to help the victims and those affected by the earthquakes of last Monday.
“The team includes medical and food service cells, 35 search and rescue experts from the Emergency or Disaster Immediate Response Team (ERIED) (25 specialists and 10 dog lovers) from the Army,” the SRE said in a statement. .
Among the canine pairings are four from the Mexican Red Cross. Balam, one of these four dogs, has already found a person alive in the rubble.
Rescue dogs have earned the affection of Mexicans since the earthquake of September 19, 2017, among which “Frida” stood out, a Labrador retriever who participated in several rescue missions, found 55 people, 12 of them alive, and that last November he died of natural causes.
