Statista carried out an exclusive study of its subscribers and measured revenues in the processed meat segment within Mexico in billions of dollars.
Profeco’s declaration against certain brands of sausages could unleash a phenomenon similar to that of the new labeling promoted by NOM 051.
Within the analysis of the Federal Consumer Protection Agency, the worst rated product was Fud Cuida-t.
The prophet has revealed the marks of sausageswhose sausage quality is irregular, adding to the recommendations against diets based on the intake of this food.
The sausage is one of the foods most questioned by nutrition specialists and the argument is due to the type of protein and its quality, the processes followed to prepare it and the additives such as starches used in its preparation.
Consume processed meat, according to a projection exclusive of Statisticalwill generate revenues in Mexico for about 12 billion dollars during 2022 and the growth rate in this business would be 2.35 percent on an annual basis.
Of these revenues released by Statisticalthe sausages represent $4.2 billion for this one 2022 and variables such as the armed conflict in Ukraine where Russia intervened or the depreciation of emerging currencies against the dollar have been considered.
With an economic context where a high consumption of the processed meat category is revealed, Profeco’s warning is an important alert that could modify the expected growth path of sausages in Mexico.
A case that serves to give dimension to this argument occurred when changes were implemented to NOM 051, where alert labeling began to be applied to products with the excessive presence of ingredients such as fats, sugars, sweeteners or sodium, which, consumed in excess, have harmful effects. negative for consumer health.
On that occasion, Arturo Vasconcelos, deputy general director of the commercial, operations and logistics areas of Chedrauideclared exclusively to a specialized media, that the impact of the new labeling on sales was seen in the dairy aisle, where many products considered healthy were surprised by their appearance.
The sausages that Profeco does not like
The list of sausage brands that do not meet the parameters to be recommended or failed with the ingredients they claim to contain, such as the animal origin of their protein, leads to a detailed look the marks that did not comply in the eye of the Prophet.
The study looked at 57 marks and of these 30 did not meet the standardssuch as NMX-G-065-1984, which only contemplates three types of sausages, however, the entire wide variety of this product was submitted to the analysis of the federal agency.
For the conclusion in the composition of each sausage and recommendation on compliance or not to the consumer, The Attorney General’s Office considered the sanitary quality, its fat composition, use of starch, information offered to the consumer, level of humidity, amount of sodium, type of meat and quality of the protein contained.

Missing Sausage:
The brands with lower content than declared were Duby, great value and San Rafael Balance, one of the most expensive of the three compared by Profeco.
The worst rated product by Profeco was the Fud Cuida-t sausages, since it claims to be turkey but contains chicken; it does not deliver on the promise of low-sodium sausage and it is not reduced in fat, as it has the same amount of fat as the regular product.
The brands that Profeco will begin to immobilize in stores and supermarkets are:
