Profeco and Cofepris withdraw 10 thousand 75 products from self-service stores
In an operation carried out jointly by Profeco and Cofepris in Nueva Walmart, City Fresko, Chedraui and Soriana in Mexico Cityit was found that products such as Chips Ahoy!, Doritos, Lucky Charms, Cheetos and Oreo cookies violated the NOM-051 standard.
This was announced through a statement made by Cofepris Y profectin which they reported that products of more than 80 brands were withdrawn from these storesdue to the fact that many of them omitted the label of excess calories or excess sugars, omitted legends of allergens and those associated with the content of caffeine and sweeteners, presented interactive images in products with warning labels or completely omitted the labeling respectively.
Cofepris and Profeco reaffirm the importance of labeling seals
During the statement, both agencies recalled that the standard is mandatory at the national level, and stressed that all products for marketing purposes must contain the corresponding nutritional warning stamps on the front of the packaging, since placing them on the sides of the product makes it invisible unhealthy content and can mislead consumers.
This was what was mentioned in the statement:
“The manufacturers of prepackaged food and non-alcoholic beverages of Mexican and imported products are obligated subjects of compliance with current regulations, they can find guides and manuals on the application of NOM-051”.
Finally, the two institutions urged consumers to report any breach of the labeling rules that they detect through the pages telefonodelconsumidor.gob.mx and gob.mx/cofepris.
The products were insured since they present irregularities in their labeling, such as: omitting the seal of excess calories or excess sugars, omitting allergen legends, presenting interactive images in products with warning seals or repealed labeling. pic.twitter.com/1rqIshJTFV
